Buy cheap computer hardware…
Upgrade and equip your personal computers and laptops with the latest and best computer hardware and software. There are many online computer shops stocking cheap computer hardware in Australia.

For your convenience, buy computer hardware online.  But the store list can be an extensive menu of terms you hardly comprehend.  A good hardware online guide should be easy to understand.  And before you decide what hardware component – say a networking hardware, is missing to fill your need have a run through the different hardware components and what they do.

But first know…

Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer, including the digital circuitry, as distinguished from the computer software that executes within the hardware. A typical personal computer consists of a case or chassis in desktop or tower shape and the following parts:
  1. Motherboard or system board with slots for expansion cards and holding parts including:

    Central processing unit (CPU)

Random Access Memory (RAM) - for program execution and short term data storage, so the computer doesn't have to take the time to access the hard drive to find something. More RAM can contribute to a faster PC.

Buses - a subsystem that transfers data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers. Unlike a point-to-point connection, a bus can logically connect several peripherals over the same set of wires. Each bus defines its set of connectors to physically plug devices, cards or cables together:

The Peripheral Component Interconnect standard specifies a computer bus for attaching peripheral devices to a computer motherboard. These devices can take the form of: integrated circuits fitted on the motherboard itself (called planar devices in the PCI specification); or expansion cards that fit in sockets.

PCI Express, or PCIe, (formerly known as 3GIO for 3rd Generation I/O, not to be mistaken for PCI-X or PXI) is an implementation of the PCI computer bus that uses existing PCI programming concepts.  PCI Express is intended to be used as a local interconnect only.

The Accelerated Graphics Port (also called Advanced Graphics Port) is a high-speed point-to-point channel for attaching a graphics card to a computer's motherboard, primarily to assist in the acceleration of 3D computer graphics. Some motherboards have been built with multiple independent AGP slots. AGP is slowly being phased out in favour of PCI Express.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) provides a serial bus standard for connecting devices, usually to computers such as PCs and the Apple Macintosh, but is also becoming commonplace on video game consoles such as Sony's PlayStation 2, Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Revolution, and PDAs, and even devices like televisions and home stereo equipment.
  2. Power supply - a case that holds a transformer, voltage control and fan
  3. Storage controllers of IDE, SATA, SCSI or other type, that control hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM and other drives; the controllers sit directly on the motherboard (on-board) or on expansion cards
  4. Video display controller that produces the output for the computer display
  5. Computer bus controllers (parallel, serial, USB, FireWire) to connect the computer to external peripheral devices such as printers or scanners
  6. Some type of a removable media writer: CD - the most common type of removable media, cheap but fragile (CD-ROM Drive, CD Writer); DVD (DVD-ROM Drive, DVD Writer, DVD-RAM Drive); Floppy disk; Zip drive; USB Flash Drive; and, Tape drive - mainly for backup and long-term storage.
  7. Internal storage - keeps data inside the computer for later use - Hard disk (or medium-term storage of data), and Disk array controller
  8. Sound card - translates signals from the system board into analog voltage levels, and has terminals to plug in speakers.
  9. Networking hardware - to connect the computer to the Internet and/or other computers - Modem (or dial-up connections); Network card (for DSL/Cable internet, and/or connecting to other computers)

In addition, hardware can include external components of a computer system. The following are either standard or very common.

  1. Input or Input devices - Text input devices (Keyboard); Pointing devices (Mouse, Trackball); Gaming devices (Joystick, Gamepad); Image, Video input devices (Image scanner, Webcam); Audio input devices (Microphone)
  2. Output or Output devices - Image, Video output devices (Printer, Monitor); Audio output devices (Speakers, Headset)
